Moving to Lubbock? A Newcomer's Guide
By Bre Brossman, REALTOR®
Whether you're coming for Texas Tech, a job, healthcare, or just a slower, friendlier pace, Lubbock has a way of feeling like home fast. Here's an honest newcomer's rundown — and how I make buying from out of town simple.
1. What people love about Lubbock
They call it the Hub City for a reason — it's the heart of West Texas. You get big-city essentials (a major university, a strong medical community, real shopping and dining) with a genuinely neighborly feel. Wide-open skies, unforgettable sunsets, and a community where faith and family still anchor a lot of life here.
2. Cost of living
One of Lubbock's biggest draws: your dollar goes further. Housing is generally more affordable here than in Texas's big metros like Austin, Dallas, or Houston — which often means more home for your money and a manageable payment. When we talk, I'll show you what your budget actually buys in today's market.
3. Getting to know the areas
Lubbock spreads out, and each part of town has its own feel — from established central neighborhoods to the fast-growing south side. Rather than steer you, I'll learn what matters to you — commute, home style, new versus established, your must-haves — and match you to the areas and homes that fit. School district questions are best answered by the districts directly, and I'm always glad to talk specifics on any address.
4. New construction on the south side
If you want brand-new, south Lubbock is where much of the growth is — including Ventura Homes' communities in the Lubbock-Cooper and Frenship areas. New builds can be a great fit for relocating buyers who want move-in-ready and modern. I put together a whole guide to buying a Ventura home if that's on your radar.
5. Buying from out of town — made easy
You don't have to be here to make progress. I do FaceTime and video walkthroughs so you can "tour" homes in real time from wherever you are, send you honest takes on what the photos don't show, and handle the on-the-ground details. Plenty of my out-of-town buyers see their home in person for the first time at the final walkthrough — and it works beautifully.
6. Let's make your move easy
Relocating is a big deal, and you shouldn't have to figure out a new city alone. Tell me your timeline and what you're looking for, and I'll be your eyes, ears, and advocate on the ground here.
