Search "where are the nice houses in Lubbock" and you'll be pointed here sooner or later. LakeRidge broke ground in December 1977 as Lubbock's first planned golf-course community — 625 acres wrapped around what's now LakeRidge Country Club — and it was a neighborhood of firsts beyond the fairways: the first Lubbock subdivision built with paved, rear-entry alleys, so garages tuck behind the house instead of dominating the front elevation. Nearly fifty years later, the three connected sections — LakeRidge Country Club Estates, Highridge, and Cobblestone — hold more than 1,200 homes inside roughly 82nd Street, Quaker Avenue, 98th Street, and Slide Road, under some of the most mature tree canopy in the city.
Architecture with actual variety
Most LakeRidge homes went up between the late 1970s and the 1990s, and no two streets repeat. The range runs from single-story ranch homes around 2,000 square feet to large neoclassical and New Traditional estates — a handful reaching roughly 8,000 square feet — with lots noticeably larger than almost anything Lubbock builds today. The alley design is the quiet hero: with garage doors off the facades, the curb reads landscaping and architecture instead of concrete. Some homes back directly onto the fairways; others sit on interior streets in Highridge and Cobblestone.
How this market actually trades
LakeRidge trades well above the citywide median — that's its established-luxury positioning, and it's driven by land, mature landscaping, and finish-out rather than newness. The spread is wide: fairway adjacency, size, and renovation level move price more here than in any repeated-floor-plan subdivision. The club at the center of it all
LakeRidge Country Club's 18-hole championship course was designed by Billy Martindale and PGA Champion Don January, built around two lakes with tight, tree-lined fairways. The club also anchors a junior Olympic pool and eight tennis courts. One thing buyers should know going in: club amenities are membership-based and separate from the home purchase — if golf or tennis access is part of the decision, confirm current membership tiers and dues directly with the club. Just north, Jan Jennings Park adds volleyball courts and a fishing pond. The association picture varies by section — and some enclaves carry their own — so HOA terms get confirmed per address, not assumed.
Schools, by zoning
LakeRidge is zoned to Lubbock ISD — the typical attendance path runs Preston Smith Elementary → Irons Middle School → Coronado High School, though boundaries can vary at the edges of Highridge and Cobblestone. Confirm the assigned campus for any specific address with the district before you count on it.
Errands on the 82nd Street corridor
The corridor along LakeRidge's edge has grown into one of Lubbock's stronger dining strips — Caffenation Station, Caprock Cafe, Ike's Woodfire Grill, Blue Sky Texas, Yuyo, The Catch, and more — with Kingsgate Shopping Center, anchored by a Sprouts Farmers Market, covering retail. Downtown is about 10 miles via Loop 289, and UMC Health & Wellness sits under two miles from the neighborhood.
New construction — or the lack of it
LakeRidge is essentially built out. What's active is custom remodel, rebuild, and infill work as older homes and lots come available — Lubbock custom builders, Trey Strong Custom Homes among them, list LakeRidge in their working neighborhoods. Want brand-new? The newer southwest corridor — Vintage Township, Fountain Hills Estates — has the ground-up inventory. Want an established lot with fifty years of trees? This is the address people mean.
